The BFM blog is up

We are finally making progress on Birdwatching from Mars.  The artist is churning out sketches and page drafts like a lunatic and I am nearly done with the script of issue #2.

We have been working out a promotional blog to hopefully generate some interest.  You can see it here.  If you have friends that are into comics, please spread the word!

It is killing me to not go into detail about the plot of the story, but I have been asked to stay hush-hush until issue #1 is released (looking to be August or September).  I may just have to drop some hints on here from time to time.  Anyway, swing by the blog, check it out and let me know what you think!

Ch-Ch-Ch-Changes

Posted in me, short stories with tags , , , , , on October 23, 2008 by barrynapier

Okay, so stuttering the word “changes” is apparently only cool when David Bowie does it.

The first change to speak of, as I’m sure you regulars have noticed by now, is that I redesigned the blog. In doing so, I discovered that WordPress loses a point to Blogspot in terms of theme and template options. But I did the best with what I had. What do you guys think, honestly? Was it better before? (The tiny type on the old page was irking me).

Second change…As of this morning, I received an acceptance for the first poem I have ever submitted. It was a quick 2 day response from Death In Common for my poem “A Biography of Flowers and Thorns” (see yesterday’s post). It makes me wonder if perhaps I was being a bit hasty during my love/hate relationship with poetry and decided to abandon it. I used to write a lot of poetry in college (it all sucked, however…imagine Trent Reznor and Bill Hicks in a shouting match) but just got tired of it. This was a nice way to sort of be re-introduced to it.

And the third change isn’t really a change for me at all. But are any of you watching The Shield?  This week’s episode was perhaps the best ever and left me floored.  Being the final season and only 3 or 4 more episodes to go, the following weeks promise to be insane.

Blood Routes

I’ve been working with the guys over at Graveside Tales on an online serial novel for the last few months and I am pleased to announce that it will launch sometime shortly after the 4th of July holiday.

The novel is called Blood Routes and is without a doubt one of the oddest ideas I’ve ever put to paper/computer screen.  I’m extremely excited about this project, particularly the chance to have it in the online serial / blog format.  Blood Routeswill be the fourth online novel put out by Graveside Tales and in the coming days, I will be sure to post more about it.

For now, here’s the banner art I did for it and a very brief synopsis.

Evan has been running drugs for most of his life, so working under pressure has never bothered him.  But one day in a small New Mexico town, Evan gets involved in a job that has him mixed up with a bizarre and nearly legendary Native American tribe.  The tribe has heard rumors of a charter bus that runs along the barren desert highways late at night; it does not make stops and it does not pick up passengers and has been said to even drive off of the roads and into the desert.

During what is easily the worst day of his life, Evan finds himself forced to board the bus where he quickly discovers that the bus and its passengers have nothing to do with drug trafficking.  The people aboard the bus are a strange bunch; instead of luggage, they carry axes and knives.  And there is a desperate moaning sound coming from the storage compartment.  Even worse is the thing they have hidden in the restroom and their eventual destination…
