“Voices” response and some research

I got my response from Morrigan Books regarding the Voices anthology.  They passed on “Filling the Void”.  According to their e-mail, they loved the story but found that there were too many discrepancies within the story.  They gave several examples (some of which I agreed with, but a few that raised an eyebrow) and concluded with: ” As they were all key plot elements, we felt that too much of the story would have had to be re-worked before inclusion.”

I have gotten a few rejections this year (a quick check of my Old Mail folder gives a tally of five) and have been rather fortunate to have gotten very positive feedback, advice and critiques.  Some places will just send out the form letter stating “not good enough” or “not what we’re looking for”.  But four of my five have come back with valuable points.  And, as is the case with Morrigan’s Voices, there is still a subtle sense of accomplishment in knowing that I made it to the final 26 selections that motivates me to keep plugging along.

To cap today’s post off, I thought I’d post a very intriguing video I found on YouTube.  I came across it while doing some research into my not-horror-but-still-weird novel that I have been tinkering with (the working title, I think, is Broken Sky but this will probably change).  This clip will give you a pretty good idea as to what the book is going to be centered around (yet keep in mind, the story isn’t really sci-fi either; the context of this clip is just sort of entwined with it).  It’s a clip of an interview/dialogue of Dr. Michio Kaku about…well, I’ll let you find out.  And also, if you’re not interested by the 1:00 mark, go ahead and skip to about the 3:10 mark or so.

And now you can see why this little story is giving me such a beating.

One Response to ““Voices” response and some research”

  1. My head hurts – communicating with ants and I’m trapped in a bubble!!! And I am now very, very interested in what Broken Sky is about – especially if it’s not sci-fi and is weird.
